Hello to new followers!
I’m not always the greatest at consistency, which is odd considering how much I thrive on routine and pattern (or the ignoring of both, apparently). I have a million alarms set on my phone in the meager hopes that I will actually remember to water my plants and I adore my plants. Just know, I’m trying. I’m also trying very hard to not be annoying.
Author-y Updates:
While I will no longer be participating in any official nanowrimo anything, November will likely continue to be SplatDraft month for me. I’m not getting this one done in a month but I will be getting it done.
Current splat draft is really hoping to grow up to be horror, specifically Appalachian Folk Horror. While I chose the working title, No Roots, with the expectation it would change, the further I get into the story, the better it fits and I’m really getting to like where it’s going. I know from experience that something like 75% of my splats get totally rewritten so I’m not really all that fussy about how this one gets put down. In a lot of ways, my splat drafts are sort of like a beach where lightning has struck. You have to shake off quite a lot of sand to see the fulgurite’s proper shape with all it’s interesting twists and branches.
I have several other projects just sort of waiting their turn but once I’m done with No Roots’ initial splat, the plan is to pick up an old book that I had trunked completely. In all the goings on in the current political climate, I figured out how to make it something I think might actually find a publisher. The bones of Purgatory’s Queen are solid but the skin didn’t quite fit. I think I found the right skin and I’m really looking forward to tailoring it.
Crow’s Hollow Corner:
I’ve done more markets this year than ever before - most of them have been truly marvelous and I’ve met some very lovely people. I’ve played with new ingredients, formulated new soaps, new salves, blended new herbal teas. Discovered the joys of sculpting mushroom lights. I’m looking forward to doing even more next year - maybe finally expanding my travel distance. I need to get a bit better at updating the site/shop too but I really do prefer selling face to face.
I’m not always the greatest judge of what will and won’t sell. I love my books and I think they should be my best sellers every time but they never are. I love my soaps and it never surprises me that my pumpkin pie soap is gone nearly as soon as it’s finished curing (made with real pumpkin and spices). I love my weird art and am always surprised when someone else does too.
To my reader in the States: I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.
I cannot believe this year is almost over already. Where on earth did it go? I swear it was just April. In any case, the goal is consistency but sometimes I do miss the mark a bit.
