Happy New Year!
Another year come and gone, the new one just begun. I’d like to say it’s full of potential but I’m not sure yet. For the most part, 2024 has been pretty darn good for me. That’s not to say there weren’t moments that weren’t. But, festering in that particular wallow hollow isn’t good for anyone.
When I set my goals for 2024, I said I wanted to finish two books. And I did, they just weren’t new books - I rewrote two books. I also started two books that need finished. I guess that will be something to do in 2025.
I don’t really do resolutions. I like goals. I like data and stats. I like counting my words and aiming for consistency. It doesn’t always work but I keep trying because what is the alternative? To just not write? To quit telling stories? No thank you.
I feel a bit like the odd one out sometimes, because I am still aiming for the “big” publishers and not jumping direct to self-publishing. I’m not really super interested in self-publishing yet. I am not good enough at marketing to be honest. So, I continue to write and submit to all the places. In my writer’s group at least, it seems I’m the only one aiming that way but that’s just always been the vision.
So, the goal this year is again to get two novels into slush somewhere - whether it’s one of the ones I started last year or the one I’m in the process of rewriting now, doesn’t really matter to me.
Forward motion. That’s the key.

I’m working on making my market list - I’m unsure when I’ll have the list but I’m hoping to add not only more markets but a bit more distance to my participation zone. I have a lot of things I’m working on. New soaps, new teas, new art, new housewares type things.
And kitchen witches! I made a couple as gifts this year and I really love how they turned out so there will be more of them. I really enjoy having this kind of outlet too. It’s so different from the writing and the soap and salves. Making things like these, like my little mushroom lights, it’s very refreshing and recharging for my brain. Admittedly, it all ties in together also as I’ve had some wicked ideas while busy making other things so, it’s all good.
As of right now, I’ve got nothing on my calendar for January, but it won’t be long before I’m back to lugging all my stuff to markets again.
